GU12 Red Presidio Cup Champions
The Hawks GU12 Red team participated in the Presidio Cup GU12 AA-B bracket. Their group included the Carlsbad Lightning Gold, the Del Mar Sharks and the La Mesa Matrix. The team started slow against the Carlsbad Lightning team, conceding a goal in the first minute of the game. Even though the Hawks controlled most of the game and had a number of chances, they could not score and ended up losing the game 1-0. As it turned out, this was the only goal the team would concede in this tournament.
On their second game, the Hawks defeated a game Del Mar Sharks team 3-0. Kaipolani Mortensen, nicknamed “Ipo”, scored two goals in the first half, one bouncing off a Del Mar player, and Carlee McManus scored the third goal in the second half. On their third and last group play game, the Hawks needed at least a tie to advance to the semifinal. They dominated the game against the La Mesa Matrix and ended up winning the game on a goal scored by Makenzie “Kenz” McNall. The Hawks finished second in their group and advance to the semifinal round.
In the semi final game, the Hawks faced the Oceanside Breakers, who finished first in their group. This is the same Oceanside team who finished first in Presidio League play. After a hard fought battle, the Hawks prevailed 2-0. Both goals were scored in the second half. The first was scored by Sierra Stromberg after she chased a ball crossed by “Samra” Cain, which appeared to be heading out, controlled it, centered it for Ipo, whose shot was saved by the goalie, and Sierra finished the rebound. Ipo scored the second goal on a beautiful header she flicked over the goalie’s head. Winning this match earned the Hawks a place in the final against Scripps Ranch.
The final game was a seesaw battle with both teams having chances to score. The Hawks were not going to be denied. Ipo scored again in the first half from a beautiful pass by Cassidy Ricks. The ball took one bounce in front of Ipo and she finished on the volley on the upper left corner of the goal.
This tournament brought out the best of the Hawks players in only their second year together. They all contributed to this accomplishment. The goalkeeper, Jordyn Stott and the defense, anchored by Mallina Gabiola and including Cassidy Ricks, Caitlyn Coram, Allison Powell and Mackenzie Campbell, only allowed one goal, on the first minute of the first game, and shutout their next four opponents, outscoring them 7-0. The midfield, Cailin Koupal, Sierra Stromberg, Makenzie McNall, Carlee McManus, Natalie Rice, and Taylor Duncan played their role on both sides of the ball and fed many balls to forwards “Ipo” Mortensen, “Samra” Cain, and Michaela Campos. It was a total team effort.

Hawks Girls Cap Undefeated Season
 By: XK Submission
Coach Jacques Ladouceur's TVSA Hawks GU11 Black marched
undefeated through the Presidio League season (12-0-2) to
win the GU11 AA-A North bracket title. The Hawks outscored
their opponents on the season, 42-3, and earned a spot in
the Premier bracket for next season.
The Hawks
wrapped up their bracket two weekends ago with a 3-1 win
over the Surf, but it was their 2-1 win over the Carlsbad
Lightning in the season finale that was most rewarding.
Despite playing with only eight players on the field and one
in the net, the Hawks got goals from Cameron Allen and Malia
Burleson to secure the victory.
Coach Ladouceur is
proud of the girls' performance this season as they proved
the importance of teamwork, commitment and dedication. With
a roster of only 12 players, the girls quickly accepted the
importance of being team players. Many of the girls often
played sick or injured, but the fruits of their hard work
have been rewarded.

College Recruiting
Simplified Seminar
On Friday night, November 13th, Hawks players and their families listened to guest speaker Tim Twellman from NCSA. Twellman went through the steps of what players need to do to give
themselves the best opportunity to extend their soccer playing careers into college. The players listened intently as Twellman stressed the importance of contacting coaches and
being proactive.
Most players will not be found by the coach, the player needs to do the work, find the programs they are interested in and try and get the coach interested in them. He also said t is important to be realistic and evaluate your abilities, D1 schools offer a small percentage of the available scholarships, 16% for men and 23% for women, while D2, D3, NAIA and NJCAA offer the remaining
opportunities. Twellman also stressed that the most
important job the student athlete has, beginning in 9th grade, is to do the best job they can academically.
Thank you to the players, families and Hawk
coaches who attended this very informative seminar.

GU9 Red United Cup Champions

Congratulations to Coach Robert Paterson and his GU19 Red team. The girls went into the United Cup after finishing as finalist in their last two tournaments. They continued their winning ways on the opening day of the tournament. Against United FC the Hawks posted a 2-1 win and against FRAM CQ the Hawks played to a 4-0 victory winning their pool and advancing to the semi-finals. In the semi-final against South Bay Force the Hawks faced a tough opponent. The score through the first half was tied 1-1, but the Hawks played like a well oiled machine in the second half. The defense was stingy and the offense exploded with 3 goals to secure a 4-1 win and advancing them to their third straight tournament championship game. Hawks faced off against Chelsea SC and both teams came to play. The game was very exciting and turned out to be a nail biter, filled with intense play, great shots, superb defense and awesome fan support. In the end the Hawks closed out Chelsea 2-1 to capture their first tournament of the 2009-2010 season as the United Cup Champions. Well done girls.

rematch and what a game. They finished regulation at 2-2 and went to

Birthday Bash: Hawks Clash with PQ
TVSA Hawks coach Nicole Conde celebrated her birthday
weekend in style when her GU8 team nabbed the championship
title of the San Diego United Summer Challenge on Sunday,
Aug. 9 at Oak Valley Middle School. The Hawks took down
PQ Premier, 2-1, in the finals.
“They played great,” Conde said. “This is the first time they played
in their own age group and I think they had a lot more confidence.
It was a great effort from the whole team.”
In practice, Conde has been working with the girls on passing wide.
Their practice paid off as the Hawks remained undefeated in the
four-game tournament, outscoring their opponents, 14-2. Conde
said everyone on the team contributed to the scoring in some way.
Demi Saibetta initiated the scoring for the Hawks early in the championship game. Madison Allen sent a
cross to Siabetta, who finished it off for the 1-0 lead. Soon after, Ariyanna Buggs fired a goal past PQ's
first-half goalie, Tayler Stogsdill (two saves), to lift the Hawks to a 2-0 advantage.
The Hawks dominated the first half, creating some great opportunities. The damage in the net could have
been worse had it not been for the staunch defense of PQ's Haley Hughes, Morgan White and Faith
LoPresti. Hughes was key to thwarting Buggs’ fast breaks towards the net.
The tables turned in the second half, as the PQ girls owned the field. White stepped in to man the sticks
while Stogsdill moved on to the field to play forward, giving PQ its first shot on goal, which was saved by the
Hawks' second-half goalie, Mikaela Rios-Canseco.
Borrowed player Lexi Gentry put PQ on the scoreboard when she sent a sweet ball from the middle third to
the back of the net for the 2-1 score. Arianna Williams and Maegan Hensen were also instrumental in
PQ’s attack.
Although PQ held the upper-hand in the second half, the Hawks defense -- led by Jaden Jackson -- held PQ
scoreless for the remainder of the game.
“We played great for our second tournament,” PQ coach Dave Bugsch said. “We came out a little flat in the
first half but we battled the rest of the time and worked really hard. It was our first finals and hopefully it will
not be our last.”
In a short time, Bugsch has seen tremendous growth in his young squad. The girls have a lot more
confidence in their ball skills and are holding their positions much better. He hopes the team’s success
continues this weekend as they play in their own tournament, the San Diego Premier Classic.
The Hawks advanced to the finals with a 4-1 win over the SD United Black, a 6-0 shutout against the
Poway Vaqueros and a 2-0 finish over the same PQ team.
The Hawks championship team includes the following players: Madison Allen, Ariyanna Buggs, Kylah Dutton,
Oliva Fernandez, Jaden Jackson, Mia Johnson, Mikaela Rios-Canseco, Abbey Savin, Julia Steinberg,
Nayeli Vega, Reinna Gabriel and Demi Saibetta. Article by Erin

GU19 Elite Cup Champions

Congratulations to the GU19 Black team for an outstanding performance in the Elite Cup held this weekend at John Blanche Soccer Complex. After finishing as finalists in their last two tournaments, the girls played with passion and desire to claim their first tournament victory for the 09-10 season. They opened up the tournament against their cross town rivals, FC Murrieta, and battled to a 1-1 tie. Against NSDFC Stallions they pulled off a defensive gem and shutout the stallions for a 1-0 win. The defense pulled through on the last game of pool play and the girls finished with a 0-0 tie that advanced them to the final game to replay FC Murrieta. In the Championship game the offense and the defense hit stride at the same time. While trailing 1-2 late in the second half, the offense gathered momentum and tied the score at 2-2 and the defense did the rest, securing the tie and sending the game to Penalty Kicks. With superb execution of kicks and outstanding goalie play, the Hawks were victorious 4-3. Congratulations to Coach Carlos for preparing the girls and to the parents for all their support. We look forward to continued succes in league play.

GU9 Red Arsenal Summer Classic Finalists
The GU9 Red team had a great showing at the Arsenal Summer Classic. They
picked up right where they left off at the end last season. They carried
their momentum into the tournament and played very well. They finished
first in their pool by winning all three of their games. Coach Robert
did a fantastic job of getting the girls prepared girls; their skills
and knowledge of the game have improved dramatically. The effort and
sportsmanship displayed in the Championship game did not result in
victory. However, every player, coach and parent can be proud of the
girls; their spirit, determination, and pride represented the the club
well. Congratulations girls on a job well done. Thank you to all parents
for all their support.
